A bit of a blog cataloging stuff I do... some of it informative, some of it crude, some of it stupid, but should be good for a laugh.

While on Saturday night my ankle was in more pain than I have ever felt before…  by Sunday morning I was at least able to walk on it, and by Sunday night I was walking with a minimal limp.   So we skipped going to the doc to see how this would play out and it seems it’s OK, just sore.    Still planning on starting a new workout routine/goals this week, just need to baby the left foot a bit at first.

Well after rolling my ankle nicely on the mall tonight on the way home… I think I f’d something up.   When it rolled I heard a nice pop and it’s in some serious pain now (but doesn’t seem broken)… to the doctor in the morning.  Fun…
and I didn’t even f it up doing anything cool like Ski’n or Motrocycle’n… this was just walking over the light rail tracks on the 16th st mall…
Thankfully we had compression wrap stuff from when Kate busted her ankle a few years ago out here… coming in handy tonight.  Now all I need is the good meds they put her on :)

Webcam of Denver is backup.  Had to use some spare parts to build a seperate machine to run this as my install under window server tanked.   Timelapse is being rebuilt after clearing all the stored images for the last day.

Ugh… seems my setup for my webcam has failed me… time to fire up some virtualbox and run this deal in Win7 as it was meant.  Should be back up in a day or so.

Last night I tried the Ghost Face Killer beer…

As you can probably guess - it was hot.  But surprisingly tasty.  Real solid flavors of the variour peppers, and a good beer behind it.

With that said, I consumed about 1/8th the beer.   It was impossible to drink a gulp in any rapid succession of it as the burn was so damn hot.    Fun experiment, and an awesome prank for someone drinking a beer bong :)  I imagine it would be like getting pepper spray down your throat.

Updated Video Time!  (note that the video is embedded here fairly small, just click the resolution and make it full screen.  The video is 1080P native.)

I spent the last few nights hacking on the CO ride video to fix some things that bugged me. This is what can be called a directors cut, or something. Some video was axed, some was added, and changed some music, and also added in some high res stills that I shot on the way.

The new version of the video is a much better way to tell the story that was the trip I went on. Hacking on this made me really long to get on another one of these trips as soon as I can! :)

Enjoy :)

So… I am starting to plan what I want to do for exploring the Rockies this year.  The trip probably wont be until late June or sometime in July just due to wanting the roads to be snow free (as much as possible).

After the last trip, I have all the gear I need, except maybe some new tires for the bike.  The trip last Sept was the single most liberating, exhilarating, and eye opening adventure I have been on.  Not sure anything will rival that just due to everything being so new, and unexpected.   But there is a ton of area to cover and places to see :)

Both the maps are ~ 1600 miles, and I would expect both trips to be between 5 -7 days.

The first map takes me out to SLC through RMNP, and some roads I was on last Sept, but many I wasn’t.  Then down to Moab, and then back through Durango, and up some of the roads I wasn’t able to hit on my last trip.  Also a swing by the Sand Dunes, and stops in my favorite town in Colorado - Creede.

The second, hits up Yellow stone (gotta see it before it blows up on Dec 12 2012 and all :p), meanders into Montana, Idaho, and then down to SLC, and back to Denver.  I’ve always wanted to see Yellow Stone national park, and parts of the mountain ranges in Idaho.    This trip would be shorter than the other just due to much of it being a straight shot in highways.

Both are routes I really want to take, I doubt I can or would want to do both in one summer… but who knows.  One of these routes could be done in the car with Kate as well.  While not as exciting as being on a bike, it would be nice to take Kate out for an adventure around the Rockies.

We are already planning to recreate much of my Sept route via car with her as there are also some areas I want to explore that the bike couldn’t go on that route.

The first photo is my new plaything…

Sold a few hundred $$$ in random R/C stuff and a truck I had in a box, and used that money to fund this new chassis to race with.  I have no idea what I am doing in this class, or how to set this car up… hopefully it will all fall into place tonight at the track :)

For those curious, its a CRC Racing Gen X10 LE chassis, w/ Hobbywing ESC, Orion Vortex motor, and quite a few upgrades and tweaks already done.  Has an orange Alfa 8C body as well.  This is a 1/10th scale pan car, vs my other 1/12th scale BMI chassis I run.

The 1/12th is considerably harder to drive than these 1/10ths, but should be a fun time at the track with both.

So far getting back into R/C has been a trip, harder than I remember to drive, but just as much fun to setup and tweak the cars.  (which I like doing more than driving them)  So much sub mm, and sub degree accuracy, attention to detail, exacting rebuilds, exotic materials…  great fun for a geek!   I guess that’s why most people in this club work in IT.

Video (sped up 2x) showing the fireworks show over the 16th St mall over new years.  Estimated 150,000 people on the mall for this.  Fireworks went off at midnight and played for a few minutes while DJ’s were spinning below.  Sounded like a blast.

I set the webcam to record video over that time as we were in WI while this was going on.  Gotta see the party down on the mall first hand next year.

Some pics from our Holiday weekend in Breck and on the way home.

This is just a fantastic song (Somebody That I Used To Know), heard it a couple weeks ago and and been digging it and his other works since.   The artist Gotye is pretty impressive, plays pretty much every instrument on his own except for in live shows.     This song has some fun quirkiness to it, and I love the sound of his female counterpart in the song, great contrast.

I have the music video as well I will try to upload it if I find out how.

I am digging the Chromatics.  I heard Tick of the Clock on the Drive soundtrack and then got their Night Drive album and really like tons of the songs.  Very catchy, I really dig the retro vibe, the rythm is subtle but with a modern edge lurking in the background under the retro vocals and synth.

Edit: And I am aware once SOPA happens I wont be able to post music on the interwebs anymore… so I plan to post quite a bit of it in the future just as a big f-u to the gov.

So after a weekend of prepping and tuning my little R/C car, I seem to be getting back into the rhythm of how to drive these silly things.

Two Thursdays ago the fastest lap I could turn was ~14 seconds,  this last Saturday, it was a 12,  and on Sunday in the race I ran consistent 11.4 - 11.6  times.   The time to get on the pace with would be 10.5-8 consistently.   So just a little bit more.  I have some small parts coming in this week that should get my car up to spec to get there.

Didn’t break anything, and learned a bit about setups for this track over the last couple days.  Success!
