Since this is a micro-blog (which I use as a full blog) about stuff I do I figure I might as well say a bit about who I am, what I do, and why I do it.
Who am I?:
I am Joe Kelly, and I reside in Denver, CO. I am married to my loving and very understanding err… forgiving wife Kate. :) We have been married for ~ 4 years now, dating for a year before that.
We moved to Denver from Madison, WI in April of 2011 to try something new, and break out of the same place we’ve both lived for 30 years. We moved dead center of down town Denver right off the 16th st Mall. So far urban living has been a blast and far more interesting than living in the ‘burbs in WI.
Kate and I have a rarely updated website @ http://www.Kate-n-Joe.com some day we’ll actually update it with something :)
Kate also has her own blog which is all about her main hobby - food. @ http://www.seekatecook.com
What I do.
I work as a Solutions Architect for a national technology company, and focus my efforts on Microsoft Virtualization and Management Suites. But that’s just what I do for work, to fund the below:
What I do for fun is. I geek out on a variety of topics:
- Photography (amateur, but getting better),
- Some video work (hack level)
- Motorcycle riding (and because I own a British bike… master electrician/mechanic)
- Attending Concerts
- Radio control car racing (high end, silly expensive, fun.)
- Beer and Wine consumption (expert level :D )
- Various other tech geek items like HTPCs, Racing on the Xbox in Forza with friends, my home virtualization cluster, etc…
Kate and I are also trying to get into Ski’n, and other CO past times. I have gone camping a few times now solo around CO, and this coming year (2012) Kate and I plan to camp quite a bit around the state and surrounding states.
I also took up target shooting this summer in prep for camping around the state as a minor form of self protection. Wild life in CO is a far bit different than the raccoons we had to fend off in WI.
Why I do this Blog?
One of the best parts about being an evolved mammal is the ability to communicate and share experiences. I learn a considerable amount by reading and researching others experiences on certain adventures or challenges. This is my way to share my thoughts, tips, experiences with others.
I have added items for friends and family like the webcam and time lapse for Denver to show whats going on out here for those who are still in the land of cheese and beer.
And I find it fun to be one of the few tumblr blogs that aren’t filled with re-posted BS, pretty much everything here is still that I post or I write.
I have had people ask me why I have a picture in the top corner of my back and not of my face, or something more identifiable. :
Standing at the top of Douglas Pass, looking over the mountain range infront of me and a winding bit of road I am about to drive down into the horizon. I think the picture captured (completely by accident) the very essence of what that trip was about. Looking forward to the unknown and taking chances in order to experience more of what is important in life - new challenges, keeping things interesting, and discovery (of the tangible and intangible). I think many people would be more happy in their life if they would take risks, do silly things, and in general push their limits now and then.
Enjoy, check out the videos I’ve made in the past, and stay tuned. 2012 should be a fun year.
